LAMBA SHAWLS
Shawls made by the native women of Madagascar from native silk, and also of cotton and raffia. Stripes are largely employed into which square leaf or flower designs or diamond shapes in colours are introduced. There is often a black or coloured selvedge at each side. The dark red lambas worn by the chiefs are woven in a variety of patterns and have fine metal beads across the ends.
